• It's What Our Hearts Have Been Throbbing For!

Alpha Phi was excited to start up an additional philanthropy event this quarter: Mr. Heart Throb. The event has become popular with Alpha Phi chapters on other college campuses nationwide as it involves fraternity members competing on stage in various events including an opening dance, talent, and interview with the motivation to win the title of Alpha Phi's "Heart Throb." Contestants from all eleven IFC Fraternities participated: Alpha Epsilon Pi, Beta Theta Pi, Kappa Sigma, FIJI, Phi Kappa Psi, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and Sigma Pi.

Our chapter welcomed other Alpha Phis from CSULB and Chapman University to guest judge the event. After the events were done and the points were tallied, Alpha Phi announced the Sigma Phi Epsilon contestant as the second annual "Mr. Heart Throbs." Fraternities also competed for the title of the "Most Spirited Fraternity," which would be awarded on the highest attendance at the event, highest attendance at our Yogurtland fundraiser, and through the number of event t-shirts purchased. The award for "Most Spirited Fraternity" was given to Beta Theta Pi.

The fraternity contestants had a blast and guests enjoyed a fun-filled, entertaining show. By the end of the night, our chapter raised over $2,000 in ticket sales, fundraising, and fraternity entrance fees. Proceeds benefit the charitable projects of the American Heart Association and the Alpha Phi Foundation, both non-profit organization that raises funds and awareness for women's cardiac care.
